One of my current show puppies came away from the cluster of shows in Harrisburg with only one more point to go before she finished her championship, so I made a rash plan: a one-day dash to Abilene TX to see if she could beat her sister head-to-head and secure that last point.
Long story short, Soda did it! So that gives her the 15 points and 2 majors that a dog needs to finish her championship according to AKC rules, and so she will now have a title at the front of her name:
CH Texangals I'M Sodalicious
Also, when your dog wins the breed competition at a show, then you advance to the group phase toward the end of the day where you compete against other Toy dogs that won their breed: that would be breeds like pugs and Italian greyhounds and chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers and such.
There's also a second group of Toy winners who are handled by their owners who aren't also professionals, and that's called the Owner-handled group, and because I am an owner who isn't a professional, I get to compete in both groups.
In this latter round, Soda was awarded 2nd place against the other owner-handled Toy exhibitor: not bad for an 8-mos old puppy who'd never gone into a group before!
