A Milestone in Abilene

Left: Soda wins 2nd place in Owner-handled Toy Group;  Right: Soda won 1st place in Open Bitch, Best of Winners, Owner-handled Best of Variety, and Best of Variety. One of my current show puppies came away from the cluster of shows in Harrisburg with only one more point to go before she finished her championship, so I made a rash plan: a one-day dash to Abilene TX to see if she could beat her sister head-to-head and secure that last point. Long story short, Soda did it! So that gives her the 15 points and 2 majors that a dog needs to finish her championship according to AKC rules, and so she will now have a title at the front of her name: CH Texangals I'M Sodalicious Also, when your dog wins the breed competition at a show, then you advance to the group phase toward the end of the day where you compete against other Toy dogs that won their breed: that would be breeds like pugs and Italian greyhounds and chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers and such. There's...

Apologies - ignored the website for too long!

Grand Champion and Westminster breed winner Perkins shows off his champion puppies Poppet, Soda, and Patrick Well, hello again, Everybody. You've probably thought that Texangals had gone to ground with as little attention I've been giving to the website, but no - I've just been super active on Instagram instead , yet it should have been obvious to me that not everybody frequents Instagram, and so your assumption that I'd just dropped off the face of the earth was warranted. I don't even really know when the last time I posted something here, so let's just start over. Texangals TMTs is based in Round Rock, Texas, as of April 2026. We're an AKC Breeder of Merit, and have been showing and breeding since 2014. Some of our highest accolades include receiving Brood Bitch of the Year at the Manchester national in 2022; winning the breed Owner-handled final (also in 2022) as well as the FastCAT final, both in Orlando and on the same day; Reserve Best in Show winner ...

Apologies for Radio Silence - May 2023 update

I can't believe that I haven't posted on here since November 2022, and not been bragging from the rooftops that Katie is now the top bitch in the country! We took a big trip up to Pennsylvania in April where not only did Katie grab a Select Bitch, a Best of Variety, and an Owner-Handled Group 1, but she earned enough points to achieve the Silver level of her grand champion title. If you're not a show person yourself, you're probably sort of glazing over - blah blah blah blah. The short version, she's been doing really well in the show ring, and I'm super proud of her. Also at home are my foundation bitch, Bonnie, who is enjoying retirement; Larwood, the boy from England, who finished his championship and has had his first taster of the running event called FastCAT; and Hermia, who is one "major" away from her own championship. Larwood is also going to be a daddy soon, all being well. We bred him to Zoot (who lives with my mom) and are expecting puppies...

Newest Texangal hits the ring!

Texangals Though She Be But Little, AKA "Hermia", made her debut at the Stephenville Kennel Club show in Belton TX on Friday Oct 21st in the Beginner Puppy class, and surprised me on her first down-and-back ever that she gave a most-professional stack in front of the judge. She went on to win the BP group, and best of all, seemed to have fun doing it! Two days later, she turned 6 months old and won 1st in her Bred By Exhibitor. Hopefully, this is the start of many ribbons to come!

Katie gets her Silver NOHS level

Achieving the 500 points for the NOHS silver level seemed to just come out of the blue Like most people who have been reeling from the rise in prices and the cost of gas, we've dialed down our showing schedule quite a bit since the AMTC national in Houston in July, but the highlight was definitely getting the silver badge for Katie's owner-handled successes over the past year. Going against the big guns at the national was quite daunting, but Katie made the cut twice in a deep, deep field. She then picked up some points and an owner-handled placement at Longview and again at Little Rock before winning the breed at Houston Toy. She took off her showing efforts for all of September and will hit the ring again for a few times between now and the Orlando NOHS finals in December.

Katie is Double-Bronze!

Texangals Killing Time achieved two milestones in April 2022 when she accumulated 100 Grand Champion points for her bronze level, and 250 owner-handled points for her bronze level in the National Owner Handled Series. Nationally, she stands at #3 owner-handled Toy Manchester, and is the highest owner-handled Toy Manchester at #7 in the breed. I remember when I realized that this little girl was something really special: when judge Linda Hurlebaus awarded her Best in Show Bred-By Exhibitor at Dallas in July 2021, and a Group 4 under judge Charlotte Patterson at Belton in October 2021. She has gone on to win 20 Best of Varieties and numerous Owner-Handled group placements, including half a dozen Group 1s. "KT" or "Katie" was by Ch Marler Hill Jumpin' Jack Flash and out of Ch Texangals Theodora "Ted" Logan. She has two other champion siblings, Flicka and Alfie, and another who is grand champion, Bumble. I'm looking forward to July 2022 when she'...

November 2021

I can't believe how much has happened and I've not been writing about it! Champions then Grand Champions and more puppies: really, what have I been doing, sitting on all these great brags? Let's work our way backwards, starting with the latest little bundle of scrumptiousness, our little Carpe Diem baby, "DJ" - he is the last puppy of our foundation dam, Grand Champion Bluebonnet Dreaming Spires at Texangals TKN. We bred her to her grandson, Grand Champion Texangals Diego's Got His Knives Out, to solidify those English genes before I spay and retire her. Family Portrait: Bonnie with DJ and Diego We had another set of puppies in July when we bred Champion Texangals Zoot Just Zoot to Texangals Rohan Heavens Door: Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. Lois is now called Lucy and already starting off her promising show career; Jimmy is now called Winston and is enjoying his life near Dallas as a man of leisure! July 2021 Update - Puppies Coming Soon

Zoot is from the very first litter I ever bred at Texangals, the Monty Python and the Holy Grail Litter, and coming off the back of a wonderful set of five potential show puppies, I have really high hopes for the quality of her litter with Robbie. I bred Robbie, too: he was the gentle and sweet boy from the "Bizarre Adventure" litter from 2019 (Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure is an anime that I'm particularly fond of, and Robbie's registered name comes from one of the characters on it). He is owned by Tonda Curry and Terry Fehrman from the Canton area of Texas. Rohan Kishibe, aka "Heaven's Door" Both Zoot and Robbie have pedigrees that are heavily influenced by their English roots, with a generous helping of Maggical/Rosewood and a splash of St Lazar. They're also a couple of lovely, portable, compact 10-pounders, and talk about athleticism, Zoot has always shown that she was born with springs in her legs, jumping over 32-inch x-pens from a standstil...

May 2021 Update

Well, apologies for posting after only a fair few months to say that Zoot's puppies have come and mostly gone (we kept one of them), and in the meantime, Katie has been in the show ring a few times and picked up some points which we're really happy about given that she's only just 7 months even now. To be honest, I'm way more current on the Instagram page that you see by clicking here: TexangalsTMTs In a couple of weeks' time, we'll be hitting the northbound highway for the Manchester Terrier national specialty in Kalamazoo. Katie will show in bred-by, whereas Zoot's keeper, Diego, will still be too young for anything but Beginner Puppy. I've decided to take along Granny Bonnie for a couple of fun classes like Brood Bitch and Brace, just because I'm not sure when there will next be two of Bonnie's puppy in the ring at the same show. This year, it will be Trish, co-owned with Jerri Gillean of Go West Performance Manchesters (Washington state), and...

Zoot's Puppies are Here!

Zoot fooled us all and had her litter of 5 puppies in the week BEFORE Christmas, all hearty and hale at the very creditable weights between 5 and 6 ounces. All puppies are currently reserved, but we are taking applications to get on the list for the next set of puppies we hope to have in the summer.

Guess the Dog's Name Challenge

It’s the big, big thing on Facebook right now, showing a photo of your dog with another beside it that relates to your dog’s name. I have been wary of joining in: these Facebook things are ways of data gathering, and I’m very suspicious of them. Also, you may be hard-pressed to work out most of mine! So for your viewing pleasure (or not), here is the dog name challenge for Texangals while I’m down to just the three girls.

A New Champion - Oct 2020

The tension was so palpable at the Humble show in Texas over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of October where I had entered Bonnie, Zoot, Trish, and took Lisa along with us for her owner. Zoot, entered in Open Bitch, has been knocking on the door of her last major for ages, but on the Sunday, she finally did it. Not only did she win the WB major, she went back into the challenge round and beat the Specials for BOV, too! I was only Zoot's 2nd time to be piloted by a handler, a need arising from my having entered 4 bitches and being all on my own. Thanks to Barbara Wood for her help with the little ones while I swapped between Trish and Bonnie. Texangals Zoot Just Zoot is from the very first litter we ever bred at Texangals, and the first of Bonnie's offspring to achieve her champion status.

What We've Been Up To During COVID

Ahhhh, COVID time. The spring and summer that basically never was. We didn't completely rest on our laurels, though: we had a litter of puppies, grabbed a couple of trick dog titles, and just this past weekend, we attended our first show since March and brought home a couple of landmarks. First, let's talk about the puppies: Cooper, Aston, and Robin were born on April Fool's Day to our foundation bitch, Bonnie, and the number one OH TMT in the country, Bentley. There are a couple of other posts about this, so I won't dwell on it too long: suffice to say, Robin (now called Kyro Jett on Instagram) has gone up to his outdoorsy family in Minnesota where he spends a lot of time in a lifejacket on a boat!; Aston (now called Rudy) is the apple of his owners' eyes in the Oklahoma City area; and Cooper (unofficially nicknamed Dennis the Menace) has gone to live with his grandsire's breeder in Kentucky where he helpfully inspects fences to let Barbie know where there are...

New Map of Texangals

On various Facebook groups for this breed, we're discussing ways to protect the future, and one of the ways is to communicate with each other about where the breedable dogs are, so I've made this map for the Texangals extended family. One thing that's obvious is that we have a lot of young dogs out there, which is understandable given that I'm a new breeder, my oldest litter being still under 3, and my youngest, just 7 weeks old. But you have to start somewhere, and so this is a snapshot of where neutered, spayed, and whole dogs are located throughout the country, to help other TMT breeders get in contact with me if there is a Texangal dog living near them. I suppose one could assume that we're breeding tons and tons of dogs, but given that all of North America saw a total of 162 puppies in 2019, you can see this is not about churning out dogs just for the fun of it. In fact, the trajectory is that we'll be out of our beloved black & tans in fewer th...

Two New Champions - Bonnie and Trish are now TKN!

While we've all been staying home and sheltering because of Covid-19, we have taken advantage of the AKC's offer to video our dogs doing tricks, submitting them to evaluators online, and qualifying for Trick Dog titles. Today, we got official notice that Bonnie and Trish have both received their TKN titles, meaning Trick Dog Novice. Bonnie, being a champion already, had to do only five tricks, but Trish as a 7-mos old puppy and not yet a champion, had to perform 10 tricks. Their entry videos that their owner/handler junior, Joey, edited and submitted are on our Texangals youtube channel: I'll link to them at the bottom. So without further ado, I now give you: CH Bluebonnet Dreaming Spires at Texangals TKN Texangals Trish Spicy Lady TKN Bonnie's video:  https://youtu.be/H6IWvGwPKSU Trish's video:  https://youtu.be/gzDy05GBfK8

Da Zoomie Boiz are 2 weeks today!

We had three beautiful puppies born on April Fool's Day, 2020. They came out the easy way, head first, and none were what I'd call a runt, though we do have one that currently is a couple of ounces smaller than his brothers. Because Dad's nickname is Bentley and mama is English, we decided to think about names of famous British cars for this litter, and so meet: Robin Reliant (red), Mini Cooper (light blue), and Aston Martin (silver). Mom and babies are doing well, and we're starting to see those lovely little peepers! They have been good company in these weird days of shutdown over the virus fears: if it hadn't been for the virus, I'd be going for a business trip to England soon, and missing 3 precious weeks of their lives and socialization period.

Texangals Are Expecting!

Bonnie in the Buttercups We're expecting puppies at the end of this month at Texangals in Central Texas. The dam is "Bonnie" (Ch Bluebonnet Dreaming Spires at Texangals), currently #13 TMT in the country, and the sire is "Bentley" (GCH CH Dream Maker's One Sweet Ride At Jhen TKN) who is #7 in breed and #1 in TMT Owner Handler. Bentley  Bonnie with her Boy in Junior Showmanship Bonnie is a 3/4 English bitch imported in 2016 who goes back to Amalek lines with Maggical/Rosewood TMT. Bentley also goes back to the English Reeberrich kennel via Velvet Firefly where his lines connect up with Bonnie's. For those of you who don't really care about lineage, the bottom line is that they're very well bred, they are bred with a number of international influences, and as far as temperament, get along well with other dogs, other types of dogs, and children. A number of dogs in Bonnie's line back in England are Pets as Therapy dogs, visit...

Woo-Hoo Orlando!

In mid-December every year, one of the biggest dog shows in the country takes place in Orlando. It's called the Royal Canin show, but even though it's only a weekend show, the whole week before is full of smaller shows at the same venue, including the Manchester Terrier specialty where large numbers of our breed turned up. The event is tiring and requires some stamina, but we also enjoy ourselves at night, going to restaurants or bars or even doughnut shops at 10:30 pm! I do wish we'd come away with more ribbons than the 2nd and 2 x 4ths, but it was an event not to be missed, a chance to meet people you've only ever heard of or seen on Facebook, and to see a large number of dogs to compare toplines, movement, head shapes, and all kinds of things that are hard to appreciate until you see a big group of them, side by side. The weather in Florida in December is a lovely change from dreary, cold winter, though there was more than once than I got caught i...
